2021 Wrap Up

With over thirty new albums plus numerous reissues, EPs, remix albums, live albums, and the 4AD anniversary covers compilation – it’s been a busy and impressive year for releases across the Beggars Group of labels!

Newspapers, magazines, online & retail across the globe have featured many of the Beggars’ artists in their End of Year lists and reviews. Some highlights include Dry Cleaning’s album New Long Leg making it onto everyone’s Best Albums of 2021 lists including Rough Trade’s Album of The Year, Joy Orbison’s still slipping vol. 1 winning the DJ Mag Award for Best Album, and Mustafa’s debut When Smoke Rises earning the #1 spot on the Best Albums of 2021 list from Jon Caramanica at the New York Times. Beggars Group also had seven albums named in Pitchfork’s 50 Best Albums of 2021, including Mdou Moctar’s Afrique Victime (#8), black midi’s Cavalcade (#23) and Snail Mail’s Valentine (#15), and eight total nods in EOY lists from the New York Times writers. On top of it all, President Obama included Parquet Courts’ “Walking at a Downtown Pace” and Mdou Moctar’s “Tala Tannam” in his Favorite Music of 2021 playlist!

We are very excited about what’s to come in 2022, with new music already confirmed from Spoon, Big Thief, caroline, dvr and Pinegrove, to name a few.
